You love your scented, soft body lotion. What you may not know is that a high percentage of it is water. And, as a popular laundry detergent advertisement would say, you do not need to pay for water. Because when it comes to personal care products, the less water, the better.

Similarly, you do not need to pay for water when you choose a personal care product. Sadly, we have been schooled to believe that the softer a body cream is, the more luxurious it is. Yes, it may initially feel more luxurious than a body preparation that leaves out water from its formulation.

The sad part is that by applying a water-based formulation to your skin or hair, you are diluting the wonderful effects of the base ingredient. It would take longer for you to see results unless it contains harsh chemicals, which tend to speed up results.

Of course, you know the association between chemicals and illnesses such as cancers and immune disorders. That is why you are into vegan, all-natural personal care products. That is a given, but as you try to choose, you may go for the softer lotions, not realizing you are paying mostly for water. You see, the less water you have in your personal care products, the better for you.

It should therefore not surprise you that body butters are trending. People are starting to realize that paying for the real stuff serves them better in the end. They are willing to forgo the feel of body lotion for the extra benefits of body butters.

But not all body butters are created equal. In our research, we have come across body butters that contain half a dozen ingredients. Ouch!. Remember, the simpler it is, the better. Our friends at Lovelier Shea Butter have an impressive formulation. If an ingredient is not necessary for the product’s effectiveness and enjoyment, leave it out.

They are actually quite strict about this, with their pharmaceutical background. They have learned that taking a medication with several ingredients can be dangerous if something were to go wrong. Let us say you take a medication and develop allergic rashes; how would you go about isolating the offending component ingredient if there are 6 or more ingredients?

You are more likely to succeed if there are only 3 ingredients, which is why the Lovelier Shea Butter team is so strict about keeping their body butter simple. Take their Shea Supple (for ladies) or Shea Allexan (for men), for instance. Not only is each vegan and 100% natural, but it has only 4 ingredients, shea butter being the most.

In summary, go for body butters over body lotion. You get a greater bang for your buck by not paying for water. Secondly, look for a whipped shea butter so you still get the luxurious feel you are used to. If it is thrice-whipped, it is even better. Lastly, avoid body butters that have lots of ingredients. Go for the simple ones, with 4 or fewer components.

Enjoy!
