Keep It Simple, Sister (KISS)

We borrowed this topic from an earlier one about writing your resume to apply for a job or a grant. In that instance, the KISS acronym stood for something less palatable, but the principle applies in all cases. Take the example of a lady under the ministrations of a makeup artist. Somewhat elderly, she was out of step with the latest trend.

When the artist applied the 4th layer of mascara, the elderly lady could not help herself. She complained that it was too much. The artist did not stop there; she had a job to do. By the fifth layer of powder, I laughed. If the elderly lady’s face had a reaction to all the gook on her, it would be impossible to know which foundation or finishing powder was responsible. The best method is to keep it simple, sister. Then you can isolate the offending product and stay away from it in the future

As it is in makeup, so it is in the pharmaceutical industry. Unless you keep it simple, sister, you would never know which item is responsible if there is a breakout. That reminds me that we used to have a powerful pain relief medication known as APC. The acronym stood for Aspirin, Phenacetin, and Caffeine. That medicine was powerful and therefore desirable for treating severe pain. Regardless of where in your anatomy you had pain, APC would relieve it. It was thus very popular.

From Pharmacy To Beauty, Keep It Simple, Sister And Brother

It turned out that phenacetin was dangerous, but it was a while before the industry realized that. With that discovery, the pharmaceutical industry has taken steps to keep it simple, sister. It may be that they have reverted to making more complex medications, I cannot say. But if so, the onus is now on you to ensure you stay away from complex formulas. Of course, you may not always know the composition, but you should ask and keep it simple, sister and brother.

At Lovelier Shea Butter, we borrow a leaf from the APC experience to keep it simple, sister and brother. When you look online, you find shea butter artisans adding strange stuff like mango butter, arrowroot powder, and any number of items to their mixture. The final product might look attractive, but it could be deadly. What if you are allergic to one or more of the many ingredients? It would be a while before you could isolate the offending item. But if you keep it simple, sister, your clients are less likely to break out

Simpler Is Better And Safer

The other day, we were having a meeting with a prospective buyer. They identified the beauty of our products in having very few ingredients. To them, the fact that we keep it simple, sister, is a definite advantage. We agree. You should, too. It is to your advantage that you do not expose your skin to too many ingredients.

The way Lovelier Shea Butter can keep it simple, sister, is through extensive research. We learn which essential oil will best fit the need for which we formulate. Then, there is extensive practice and development. For instance, instead of adding arrowroot or any other powder to our product, we reduce the amount of carrier oil. We also take advantage of the wonderful properties of natural shea butter.

Earlier, we wrote about how shea butter is a gift from God. That is because it possesses amazing moisturizing qualities. When you start with a great item, you do not require too much intervention. Shea butter is already great. So, in formulating products with it, we can afford to keep it simple, sisters and others.
